Dr. Kevin Sherin

In his role as director of public health for the Orange County Health Department, Dr. Kevin Sherin, a former myregion.org board member and immediate past president of the American Association of Public Health Physicians, shared with a global audience the critical importance of the regional collaboration promoted by myregion.org in successfully addressing local issues related to climate change adaptation.

Dr. Sherin recently represented the Orange County Health Department at the 2010 CSTE (Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists) Annual Conference in Portland, Oregon. During his presentation on Climate Change Adaptation Efforts at the County and City Level, Dr. Sherin reported that the regional collaboration fostered by myregion.org has been instrumental in effectively addressing climate change through integrated land use and transportation planning, along with urban community cooperation. The Conference served as the initial meeting of the White House Council on Environmental Quality’s Task Force on Climate Change and Health.

Ron Sims, the deputy secretary of the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), attended the conference and expressed his very favorable impression of myregion.org and its efforts to promote smart growth in Central Florida.
