Voters in Seminole and Osceola Counties will face some important decisions in the upcoming Aug. 24th primary elections for posts on their county commissions. Once again, BusinessForce, the political action arm of the Central Florida Partnership, is fully engaged with endorsements in three of the county commission races that will be on the Aug. 24th ballot. In Seminole County, freshman Commissioner Mike McLean in District 2 and veteran Commissioner Carlton Henley in District 4 face stiff contests for re-election in the Aug. 24th Republican Primary. McLean, a Lake Mary businessman will square off in a “winner take all” race against John Horan as there are no other candidates in the race. Henley, a retired school principal, will go up against Win Adams and Donald Epps. The winner of the primary in District 4 will then face two write-in candidates, Ronald Kuzniak and Kimberly Markovich, in the November general election.
“Our counties are clearly undergoing tough times which call for strong, responsible leaders. BusinessForce is firmly convinced Commissioners McLean and Henley have the proven leadership ability to chart the proper course for Seminole County,” said BusinessForce President Mike Ketchum. With the retirement of long-time Osceola County Commissioner Ken Smith in District 4, a host of Democratic and Republican candidates are vying to succeed him in the Aug. 24th primaries. Former Kissimmee Mayor and State Legislator Frank Attkisson has emerged as the BusinessForce-endorsed candidate in the Republican Primary.
Commenting on Attkisson’s candidacy, BusinessForce President Mike Ketchum stated, “With his distinguished record of previous service at both the state and local levels, Frank Attkisson is extraordinarily well-equipped to serve the people of Osceola County again and we will look forward to his future service.” In the other Osceola County Commission race, incumbent Republican Commissioner John Quinones, also endorsed by BusinessForce, will take on Democratic candidate Armando Ramirez in the November general election.
