In 1999, Central Florida leaders began convening around a simple but powerful question:  How can Central Florida compete in the global economy and maintain a high quality of life?  As a result of work done to answer this question, over 3,000 citizens and leaders from across the region worked together to set six regional priorities.

In 2009, a progress report task force, in conjunction with countless regional organizations, funding partners and technical support, again worked together to determine progress made toward advancing these priorities. The result was the 2009 Progress Report for the Central Florida Region “Where in the World Are We?” (click here for full report).

CABE, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment located in Central London, did a similar look back at the last decade asking themselves:  What difference have we made? Click here for the CABE Ten Year Review.  As they reviewed their own journey, they searched the globe for “best practices” and how other regions “got the big picture right.”   They were curious how leaders around the world dealt with the economic, social and environmental challenges of larger scale areas that could not be resolved through local action?

Richard Simmons, Chief Executive Officer at CABE, shares his philosophy indicating: “Large scale urban design is not about hoping that micro-level interventions will add up to something that works at the large scale.  Nor is it about imposing inflexible solutions.  It embraces the complexities and uncertainties facing people today using a design process that allows people to shape the places they want.”

In their review of global best practices, the Urban Design Team at CABE cite the 2009 Progress Report for the Central Florida Region “Where in the World Are We?” as an example of how to best analyze information to gauge progress.  Specifically highlighted is the analysis of the Central Florida Region’s world position in terms of economics and quality of life.  Where in the World are we?  Click here to take a look at CABE's "Best Practices" Citing Central Florida.

myregion.org is one of four lines of business by which the Central Florida Partnership focuses on “Regional Research and Resolves.”  By identifying and examining the changing demographics and powerful trends that are shaping the Central Florida Region – myregion.org is helping to identify the issues and challenges that affect our future.

Working together with Orlando, Inc. (Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce) focused on Regional Entrepreneurship, BusinessForce (Public Policy Advocacy), and Leadership Orlando (Regional Leadership), the Central Florida Partnership is moving “Ideas to Results.”
