The University of Florida’s Bureau of Economic and Business Research (BEBR) recently released the 2011 official population estimates comparing 2010 and 2011 figures for the three-county metropolitan area, neighboring counties, and the state of Florida. Between 2010 and 2011, there was a 1% rate of population growth in the metro area. “This was the first increase in population since 2008, signaling a gradual improvement for our region,” says Harold W. Barley, Executive Director of Metroplan Orlando, Central Florida’s Regional Transportation Partnership. It is noteworthy that the three-county metro area had a rate of growth that is more than twice that of our neighboring counties. “These figures will be used in developing our Unified Planning Work Program for 2012-2013 and our budget for next year,” Barley added. Each of the three counties, Orange, Osceola and Seminole, made population gains, +0.99%, +1.93% and +0.44% respectively. With the inclusion of population gains in Brevard, Lake, Marion, Polk and Volusia Counties, the eight-county region shows an estimated increase of 25,407 people, or +0.62% overall. This is a larger percentage increase than the State of Florida at +0.55%. For additional city and county details, click here.
