Open Letter from the President - "Open for Business" Box Lunch Briefing

Monday, January 23, 2012 10:57 am

One of the Regional Priorities of the Central Florida Partnership, "Open for Business," is generating a great deal of interest across the region and across the state.  We are hearing the same roster of questions from many of you: when will we get started; how do I get involved; what are the priorities for the first year of work; when will there be an implementation plan; and how do I keep up with new research and progress?

To kick off the year, the Executive Committee of "Open for Business" will host a "Box Lunch Briefing" as a forum to which newcomers to the team, analysts, experts, journalists, and peers can engage and learn more about this fast-paced effort. The "Box Lunch Briefing," regarding "Open for Business," is planned for Wednesday, February 1, 2012, from 11:45 a.m., to 1:30 p.m., at the Chamber of Commerce Building in Downtown Orlando.

We can learn a great deal from great questions and we have an obligation to serve a growing group of interested regional community leaders.  To ensure we have a high-performance agenda for our time of discussion, we will begin with a review of how we wrapped up 2011, and share some assumptions about how the Executive Committee of "Open for Business" proposes to prioritize and make progress on this complex project.  Won’t you please join us?

"Box Lunch Briefing"
Wednesday, February 1, 2012
11:45 a.m., to 1:30 p.m.
Chamber of Commerce Building
To RSVP, please contact Pam Clancy at pam.clancy@orlando.org.

This "Box Lunch Briefing" will be coordinated and led by Shelley Lauten, Project Director and President of myregion.org.  To provide a statewide context, we’ve also invited Donald N. Upton, President of Fairfield Index and Project Director of The Florida Eight. Volunteer Leaders from the Central Florida Partnership and our "Lines of Business," will be invited to attend the "Box Lunch Briefing," along with Volunteer Leaders from the other members of the "Organizing Committee" of "Open for Business."  In addition, invited to attend are the Volunteer Co-Chairs of the three (3) "Open for Business" Regional Work Groups; providing a cross-section of civic, business and government leaders.

Prior to our "Box Lunch Briefing," I encourage you to visit "Open for Business," where you will find a transparent posting of research, planning documents, agendas, and many other helpful materials explaining this important effort.

This time together will give everyone in attendance a chance to learn "first hand" more about this important project, and how we successfully collaborated with many partners across the Central Florida Region; when it comes to exploring ways to accelerate "job creation" and to encourage "job retention."  Along these lines, we’re asking you to be "in the room," ready to learn more about our "common cause," and to clarify any questions you might have about our "shared work."

This is an important community conversation; and I’m hopeful your schedule will allow you to be in attendance at the "Box Lunch Briefing," regarding "Open for Business," planned for Wednesday, February 1, 2012, from 11:45 a.m., to 1:30 p.m., at the Chamber of Commerce Building in Downtown Orlando.  So that we may plan accordingly, please RSVP to Pam Clancy at pam.clancy@orlando.org.

Central Florida Partnership - Ideas to Results
The Central Florida Partnership is a collaborative of business and civic leaders committed to procuring a better tomorrow for Central Florida's seven counties - Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole and Volusia. We are thoughtful leaders united by a single, guiding principle - that we have both the power and the responsibility to make change happen.

Working together, through four lines of business – Orlando, Inc. (Regional Entrepreneurship), BusinessForce (Regional Public Policy Advocacy), myregion.org (Regional Research & Resolves) and Leadership Orlando (Regional Leadership) – the Central Florida Partnership is moving "Ideas to Results."
